DHEA is often referred to as a “youth hormone.”
As we age, there’s an inevitable decline in DHEA levels.
Levels of DHEA peak in your 20’s and slowly fall as you age. By the time you reach 40, your body makes about half as much DHEA as it used to. By 65, levels drop to 10 to 20 percent; by age 80, it plummets to less than 5 percent.
This decline has a cascading effect on our bodies, contributing to the gradual onset of aging-related issues. However we can easily solve DHEA production decline with supplementation.

The National Institute of Mental Health conducted a study involving patients aged 40-65 with major and minor depression. After six weeks of DHEA administration, half the patients experienced a 50% reduction in depressive symptoms.
A separate study suggested that DHEA could potentially serve as a primary treatment for glucose intolerance, insulin resistance, and diabetes prevention in older individuals. It may also mitigate the age-related increase in chronic inflammation (Aging, 2011).
Another study found that DHEA reduces activity in brain regions associated with negative emotions while enhancing activity in regions linked to regulating emotions. Additionally, DHEA has been inversely correlated with depression and other mental disorders (Neuropsychopharmacology, 2013; Psychoneuroendocrinology, 2007).
