There is no evidence to support the idea that your body’s own production of progesterone stops working after the administration of natural progesterone. Progesterone stimulates its own synthesis which means that taking doesn’t suppress the body’s ability to synthesize it.
- When should women take progesterone?
If a woman still has her menstrual cycle, she often cycles progesterone- two weeks on, two weeks off. However, if symptoms are serious, it’s common to continue taking progesterone even though patients can miss a period.
If a woman is in menopause, progesterone is often taken every single night or morning because it can have a protective effect.
- How it’s made:
Bioidentical hormones are usually derived from a type of plant oil called diosgenin, which is very similar in chemical structure to our endogenous precursor steroid hormone, cholesterol. This substance is usually extracted from soy or yams and then modified to match the hormones we make in our bodies. There is no soy or yam left benefit after the plant has been transformed.
